The water levels of reservoirs situated in close proximity to hydro power plants, have begun to increase in the recent days.
The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy says that the capacity at these reservoirs which existed at around 31 percent, has increased to 37 percent as of now.
However, Media Spokesperson to the Ministry, Sulakshana Jayawardene, says that 87 percent of the country’s electricity requirements are generated through coal power.
Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation says that the water capacity of its reservoirs has increased to 40 percent.
