The Financial Crimes Investigation Unit attached to the Sri Lanka Police was declared open on Thursday.
The unit, headed by DIG Ravi Waidyalankara, will work with the committee appointed to investigate large scale financial fraud.
Convening a joint media briefing with senior police officials following the event on Thursday, Minister of Public Order John Amaratunga made clarifications regarding the progress of investigations into corruption and fraud.
However, the Minister avoided the queries of journalist, by simply directing the questions to the Inspector General of Police.
