Sri Lanka has ranked 165th in World Press Freedom Index for the year 2014.
Sri Lanka has been ranked 165th out of 180 countries in the index, which was compiled by Reporters Without Borders, an institution that stand for World Press Freedom.
Sri Lanka, which ranked 162nd in this global index in 2013, dropped three places this year.
The latest ranking also happens to be the lowest for a South Asian country, with India ranking at 140.
Finland was ranked No.1 in this year’s index while the Netherlands and Norway were ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively. Eritrea was the lowest ranked country in the index.
America was placed 46th while the UK was placed 33rd in this year’s rankings.
