Man Arrested For Assaulting ‘Subramaniyam’

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a dog named “Subramaniyam,” which had been accompanying devotees on the annual Kataragama Pada Yatra.

Police stated the incident took place near the Ashraff Memorial Hospital in Kalmunai.

The 21-year-old suspect was arrested following investigations into a video of the incident that circulated on social media.

The suspect is due to be produced before the Kalmunai Magistrate's Court.

The dog joined a group of pilgrims participating in the Kataragama Pada Yatra in the Mullaitivu area.

Since then, the animal had continued the journey alongside the devotees, drawing widespread public attention and admiration.
