12 Killed in Batagoda Elders’ Home Fire in Anguruwathota

COLOMBO (News 1st): The director of the elders' home in Anguruwathota, which caught fire, has been arrested.

According to Police, the Government Analyst has further commenced an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

51 people who were caught in the fire that broke out at the elders' home in Batagoda, Anguruwathota last evening, were rescued at the time.

Police Spokesperson, ASP F. U. Wootler, stated that 12 people have died in the incident, with eight people reported to be injured.

Police added that 71 people were living at the elder's home, and they have now been temporarily housed at Batagoda Vidyalaya.
