COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka Police have revealed that the revolver used in the murder of Sanjeewa Kumara Samararatne alias Ganemulla Sanjeewa was allegedly supplied by Osman Gunasekara alias Gampaha Osman.
The revelation was made during interrogations carried out by officers of the Colombo Crimes Division.
Osman Gunasekara, alias “Gampaha Osman,” was arrested on May 14 in Sri Bodhi Road area of Gampaha, by officers attached to the Colombo Crimes Division.
Ganemulle Sanjeewa was shot dead on February 19, 2025, inside Courtroom No. 5 of the Hulfsdorp Magistrate’s Court complex in Colombo, while being produced before court from prison custody.
Police stated that Osman Gunasekara was arrested on charges of planning and conspiring the murder with organized criminals operating overseas, as well as aiding and abetting the killing by supplying the firearm used in the crime.
During the arrest, police recovered an unlicensed foreign-manufactured repeater firearm, 10 live rounds of ammunition, and two magazines from his possession.
According to Police, the suspect is currently being questioned under detention orders.
