COLOMBO (News 1st) - Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, who is on an official visit in Sri Lanka met with Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Governor of the Central of Sri Lanka during her visit to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka yesterday, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of Sri Lanka's IMF membership and the 75th anniversary of Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe expressed sincere gratitude to the IMF Chief Kristalina Georgeiva and the IMF team for the unwavering support provided to Sri Lanka under the current Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and for actively facilitating the completion of the debt restructuring process, helping the country recover from the unprecedented economic crisis.
Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe expressed gratitude for the extensive technical assistance provided by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) across multiple areas for the country's swift economic recovery, including monetary policy and modelling, macroprudential analysis, and financial sector policies.
During the meeting, Kristalina Georgeiva recognised Sri Lanka’s performance under the current IMF programme as a success story.
IMF Chief also acknowledged the Central Bank’s role in restoring macroeconomic stability following the economic crisis.
Noting the repeated setbacks Sri Lanka has faced in recent years, Geogieva gave her vote of confidence that Sri Lanka is poised to achieve higher growth, as Sri Lanka continue to initiate and sustain necessary structural reforms.
