Applications for Medical Aid to President’s Fund Surge by 59%

COLOMBO (News1st): Medical aid applications to the President’s Fund have seen a 59% surge within one year, following the decentralization of the fund to Divisional Secretariats and the implementation of digitalization.

According to the President’s Media Division the fund received 5,277 applications in 2025. This marks an increase of 1,964 applications compared to 2024.

The growth was particularly significant in specific regions during 2025, 

In the Northern Province Applications surged by 253%.

Eastern Province by 135% and in the Central Province by 116%.

The initiative to accept medical aid applications at the Divisional Secretariat level officially commenced on February 7, 2025, to streamline the process for the public.
