COLOMBO (News 1st): The inauguration ceremony of the “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” National Programme will take place today.
The ceremony will take place at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo, under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
“Rebuilding Sri Lanka” National Programme will be implemented to support recovery and reconstruction efforts following Cyclone Ditwah, which caused extensive damage to property and severely affected many areas across the country.
To provide strategic leadership, coordination, and oversight for the programme, the President recently established a Presidential Task Force chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. The task force comprises 25 members, including ministers and senior government officials.
Explaining further on the inauguration of the "Rebuilding Sri Lanka" National Programme, G. M. R. D. Aponsu, Senior Additional Secretary to the President says that while the true scale of the disaster has not been fully quantified yet. existing estimates, together with the World Bank’s assessment report, are being consolidated.
He added that these figures, along with data collected by the government officials, are being uploaded into a unified dashboard.
Senior Additional Secretary Aponsu highlighted that the platform will help authorities make informed policy decisions and will also enable the public and aid providers to clearly see the severity of the disaster and how assistance is being delivered. He iterated that this is the key focus of today’s proceedings at the inauguration ceremony.
He further elaborated that while Sri Lanka is receiving various forms of support in financial aid, relief items, equipment, and in some cases even land donations, the government has developed a dedicated web portal where all these efforts can be coordinated in one place.
Senior Additional Secretary to the President G. M. R. D. Aponsu emphasized that through this portal, the government is prepared to share information with the public, Sri Lankans abroad, and members of the international community concerned about the post-cyclone situation of the country.
