Sri Lanka’s Recovery Fund Surpasses Rs. 4.2 Billion

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s rebuilding efforts have received a boost, with the Treasury confirming that contributions have now surpassed Rs. 4,286 million. 

This includes Rs. 4,263 million in direct deposits and Rs. 23 million in foreign currency, amounting to an equivalent of USD 13.86 million.

Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, announced the update, noting that foreign currency contributions alone have exceeded USD 6 million. 

These funds have come from well-wishers, Sri Lankan entrepreneurs, businesses, overseas Sri Lankans, and organizations worldwide.
Global institutions such as the World Bank, IMF, and ADB are also considering additional assistance to support Sri Lanka’s recovery. 

According to the Treasury Operations Department, North America tops the list of contributions, followed by Australia, China, UK, Germany, Bhutan, Italy, UAE, Canada, New Zealand, Maldives, Saudi Arabia, France, and Korea. 

In addition to cash donations, Sri Lanka Customs is recording significant contributions in goods and services, which are being distributed through the Disaster Management Centre.

All funds are officially recorded by the Treasury and will be accounted for under the government’s grant management system.
