COLOMBO (News 1st); Colombo Crime Division officials have confirmed that steps are underway to obtain detention orders for Ishara Sewwandi, the prime suspect in the underworld leader Ganemulla Sanjeewa’s murder, along with four other individuals arrested in Nepal.

Police sources revealed that Ishara Sewwandi, along with J.K. Bai, Suresh, and Takshi—identified as members of organized criminal gangs—were handed over to the Colombo Crime Division for further questioning.

Another suspect, known as Jambugasmulle Babi, was transferred to the Western Province South Crime Division last night.

In a major breakthrough, six suspects linked to the February 19 assassination of Ganemulla Sanjeewa, were flown back to Sri Lanka last night following a joint operation between Sri Lankan authorities and Nepalese security forces.

The operation was spearheaded by Assistant Superintendent of Police Rohan Olugala and CID Inspector Gihan Chandima.

Among those arrested in Nepal were Ishara Sewwandi, J.K. Bai, Gampaha Baba, and Jambugasmulle Babi—figures allegedly connected to multiple organized crimes.

Gampaha Baba has been placed under the custody of the Peliyagoda Division, while Jambugasmulle Babi was handed over to Western Province South Crime Division.

The assassination of Ganemulla Sanjeewa occurred inside Colombo Magistrate's Court No. 5 on February 19, when the underworld leader was shot dead in a brazen attack.

Investigations have revealed that the firearm used in the killing was allegedly supplied by Ishara Sewwandi, who fled the country immediately after the incident.

Police further confirmed that Ishara Sewwandi’s identity was verified through advanced facial recognition technology, with a 100% match, strengthening the case against her.

Authorities say more suspects have been brought in for questioning as the probe into one of Sri Lanka’s most shocking underworld killings continues.
