COLOMBO (News 1st); The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has issued an official clarification to address misinformation circulating about its stance on the Sri Lankan Board of Investment’s (BOI) reported foreign direct investment (FDI) figures.

Contrary to recent reports that attributed critical remarks about the BOI’s handling of FDI data to the IMF Mission Chief for Sri Lanka, the Fund has confirmed that no such evaluation of BOI-reported data was made by the IMF.

"While the IMF stresses the importance of data transparency and genuine investment for Sri Lanka’s economic progress, it has not evaluated the BOI-reported FDI data. The Fund remains focused on supporting Sri Lanka’s reform efforts to improve the investment climate and foster sustainable growth,” said an IMF Spokesperson.
