Speaker Refuses Discussions with Chief Justice on IGP Issue

COLOMBO (News 1st): Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena says that he will not discuss the issue regarding the Inspector General of Police (IGP) with the Chief Justice. 

The speaker highlights that there is no legal basis for such discussion with the Chief Justice on this matter and further emphasizes that under such circumstances, he would not engage in any discussions.

The Supreme Court recently issued an interim order preventing Deshabandu Tennakoon from exercising his duties as the IGP. 

Following this, the President said that the issue concerning the IGP should be resolved through discussions between the Chief Justice and the Speaker.
