Top Russian Military Delegates In Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st); Major General Sviridov Vladimir, The Deputy Chief of Staff of the Land Forces of the Russian Armed Forces visited the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) on Monday (22 April 24) to meet with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil.

During the cordial dialogues, Major General Sviridov Vladimir emphasised the enduring friendship between Russia and Sri Lanka, affirming that it has been a longstanding bond that will persist into the future.

In response, General Shavendra Silva conveyed his appreciation to Major General Vladimir for making the visit to Sri Lanka and specifically to meet with him.

He highlighted the deep-rooted and robust bilateral relations shared between Sri Lanka and Russia.

The CDS also conveyed sincere appreciation for the enduring support and assistance generously provided by Russia for the Sri Lankan armed forces over the years.

During the meeting, the two leaders engaged in discussions regarding defence and training matters, exploring various areas of consideration.

The visit marks another milestone in the military relations between Sri Lanka and Russia, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to continue fostering cooperation and collaboration in defence and security spheres.

Further, Major General Sviridov Vladimir conveyed sincere regards from Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Land Forces, General of the Army, Oleg Salyukov, whom General Shavendra Silva as the CDS had the honor of meeting during his visit to Russia and on the occasion of the Land Force Commander's visit to Sri Lanka while General Shavendra Silva served as the Army Commander of the Army.

The CDS also recalled with the utmost respect and gratitude the warm hospitality extended by General of the Army, Oleg Salyukov, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Russian armed forces for their gesture of bestowing the highest military honours for a visiting senior military officer and orchestrating a memorable parade in the iconic setting of the Kremlin during his visit to Russia.

The visiting delegation was comprised of Colonel Matytsin Roman, Colonel Radchenko Andrei, Colonel Serbaev Aleksandr, and Colonel Loktionov Sergei. The meeting concluded with an exchange of mementoes, symbolising the importance of the occasion and the strengthening ties between the two nations.
