COLOMBO (News 1st); Pushpika De Silva's titled as '2021 Mrs. Sri Lanka for Mrs. World' has been denounced, announced Chandimal Jayasinghe, the National Director - Mrs. Sri Lanka for Mrs. World. In a statement, Jayasinghe said that the recent controversy surrounding Mrs. Pushpika De Silva, the 2021 title-holder of Mrs. Sri Lanka for the Mrs. World pageant has taken a toll not only in the local sphere but also before the international community jeopardizing the reputation of Sri Lanka globally. "I, ChandimalJayasinghe, the National Director of Mrs.Sri Lanka for Mrs. World is of the belief that this conduct of Mrs. Pushpika De Silva, the title-holder of the 2021 Mrs. Sri Lanka for Mrs.World is in serious violation of the discipline and the ethical standards expected of a beauty queen or most significantly of an ambassador representing one's own country in any capacity, whether being local or international," the statement added.

In 2021, The Mrs. Sri Lanka beauty pageant descended into chaos when a former title holder declared that the winner was ineligible because she was divorced, and forcibly removed her crown.

The prize was returned to her after pageant organizers confirmed she was not a divorcee.

The winner of the Mrs. Sri Lanka contest went on to compete in the Mrs. World contest.

Mrs de Silva was selected to the top six and claimed she was placed fourth.

However, on social media controversy broke out citing the Mrs. World pageant does not select 4th place.

Mayor of Colombo and former Mrs. World Rosy Senanayake recently took steps to demand Rs. 500Mn in damages from Pushpika de Silva, who won the Mrs. Sri Lanka title last year.

The local pageant winner, in a recent interview, had said she could have won the Mrs. World title if the mayor had not attended the pageant held last month.

Senanayake, in a letter of demand sent through her lawyers to Pushpika de Silva, states that the remarks expressed by the local pageant winner are false accusations and implies that she was instrumental in changing the final results at the contest.

Senanayake denying the allegation demanded Pushpika de Silva to pay 500 million rupees in damages, issue a public apology, and ensure that such statements are not repeated.
