COLOMBO (News 1st): A committee consisting of scientists from the Universities of Peradeniya and Moratuwa will be appointed on Monday (Sep 14), to look into the tremors reported in several areas in Kandy, the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau further said.
A minor earth tremor was once again recorded from several areas in Kandy on Friday night (Sep 11), according to the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau.
"A minor earthquake tremor of 1.79 on the Richter scale was recorded at around 11:30 pm on Friday night, and it was felt in the areas of Kundasale, Panwila, and Wattegama," Udaya De Silva, the Senior Director at the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau told News 1st.
According to Udaya de Silva, the most recent tremor was recorded at four seismic stations that come under the purview of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau.
However, GSMB Senior Director, Udaya De Silva noted the recent tremor was minor than the earlier recorded tremors, adding the general public need not panic over the situation.
