Proposal to abolish Kandyan marriage and divorce act

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A proposal to repeal the Kandyan Marriage and Divorce Act has been drafted and is due to be tabled as a draft, in Parliament. The proposal was presented as a private member's bill to repeal the law. Accordingly, it is proposed to repeal the No. 44 of 1952, Kandyan Marriage and Divorce Act. MPs Venerable Athuraliye Ratana Thero and Dr Thusitha Wijemanne presented four draft bills earlier, to bring amendments to the general marriage law and the Muslim marriage law.
