27 year sentence for 2 armed robbers

Colombo (News 1st): Two men found guilty of committing armed robbery and several other crimes were each sentenced to 27 years in Prison by Colombo Chief High Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi. 05 indictments were filed against the defendants on the charges of breaking into a store in Maharagama on the 04th of December 2007 and stealing Rs. 30,000 in cash and Rs. 112,000 worth jewelry, by threatening those in the shop with weapons. As it was revealed that the defendants had committed similar crimes previously as well, the High Court Judge ordered each to be sentenced to 27 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine 0f Rs. 90,000 each.
