Colombo (News 1st): Four suspected underworld figures including Warnakulasuriyage Madhuranga alias 'Peramulle Sameera', wanted in connection with drug trafficking and murder have been arrested. The four were arrested in a raid carried out by the Police Special Task Force following a tip-off.
The suspects were arrested when the van they were travelling in was apprehended. During the search of the vehicle 106.156 grams of heroin was discovered. The Police STF said they also seized 5 mobile phones and a sum of Rs. 25,890 in cash suspected to have been earned through the sale of narcotics.
During the interrogation, the suspects had revealed their involvement in the planning the murder of two people on January 13th at Hekitta, Wattala and that they had supplied the firearms used in the shooting.
The Police STF added that the suspects have been turned over to the Organised Crimes squad and further investigations are ongoing. The suspects are said to be members of the underworld gang led by Kimbula-elé Guna, believed to be in hiding in India.
