Another rooftop protest by female prison inmates

Colombo (News1st) - A group of female inmates at the Welikada Prison once again launched a protest atop the roof of the Prisons Building. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice said the group was protesting the proposed transfer of female inmates convicted of drug offences to a separate prison. According to our correspondent, the female inmates had climbed onto the roof at about 4 pm this evening and had climbed down the roof by 5 pm. Meanwhile, a group of inmates who were believed to be protesting were transferred to a different location today. A complaint was also filed to Borella Police by the inmates, stating that they were assaulted by Prison Officials.
